Who We Are and What We Do

Consistent with Colorado State University’s land-grant mission, C-ALT was established to promote the scholarship of learning analytics. Our primary goal is to move theory into practice to inform learners and to improve teaching practices.

Learning analytics is the use of learner data to advance learning and instruction. C-ALT researchers develop and empirically test the efficacy of data-driven tools designed to improve both learning and teaching. Our mission is to set the standard for the use of learning analytics at public research universities in teaching, research, service, and extension for the benefit of all.

To accomplish this mission, we strive to adhere to CSU’s Principles of Community and the Committee on Teaching and Learning’s Ethical Principles of Learning Analytics when advancing a data-driven method.

University Center

C-ALT is a university-level research center housed in the School of Education, part of CSU’s College of Health and Human Sciences.

Laboratory

C-ALT’s research laboratory is located in the Education Building.

We engage graduate and undergraduate courses from across the University as teaching and learning laboratories. These unique labs allow for innovative research, development, and application in the area of learning analytics methods.

C-ALT researchers help to develop learning analytics tools, and deploy research to investigate those tools in working classrooms. These interdisciplinary projects continue to contribute significantly to innovative advancements in learning analytics methods.

C-ALT projects adhere to the ethical principles of learning analytics as ratified by the Committee on Teaching and Learning at CSU.
